Corner Sofa Bed Ireland: Complete Buying Guide 2026

Buying a corner sofa bed is one of those decisions that sounds simple until you actually start looking. You want something that looks good every day, sleeps your guests comfortably, and fits your room without making it feel like a furniture showroom. I have helped hundreds of Irish families choose the right sofa bed and the same questions come up every time. This guide covers everything you need to know before you buy.

What Is a Corner Sofa Bed?

It is exactly what it sounds like. An L-shaped corner sofa that folds out into a bed. During the day it is your regular sofa. When someone needs to stay over, one section pulls out into a proper sleeping surface. Most models also have storage underneath, which in an Irish home is never a bad thing.

For a lot of the families I work with, this is the most useful piece of furniture in their home. It does the job of a sofa, a guest bed and a storage unit all at once, without needing a spare room.

How Much Should You Spend?

Corner sofa beds in Ireland start at around €1,499 for a good EU-made model. At Lava Corners our range starts at €1,499 with free delivery included in the price.

If you see something under €800, I would be cautious. At that price the sleeping surface is almost always a thin foam pad that folds in half, the frame is likely chipboard, and the fabric will start looking tired within a couple of years. I have seen a lot of sofas and you really do get what you pay for.

What Size Do You Need?

This is where most people make mistakes. They fall in love with a sofa online and only measure the room properly after it arrives.

The most popular size in my range is 280 x 200 cm. That fits well in a living room of around 4 x 4 metres and gives you a generous seating area with a proper sleeping surface. If your room is smaller, my compact models start at 235 x 173 cm, which work well in apartments or smaller sitting rooms without taking over the space.

Before you order, measure both walls from the corner outward. You need at least 30 cm of clearance between the end of the sofa and any door or walkway. If you are not sure, send me your room dimensions on WhatsApp and I will tell you exactly which models will fit.

What Actually Makes a Good Corner Sofa Bed

The sleeping surface is everything

Most corner sofa beds that give people bad backs use a folded foam pad. It has a crease down the middle, it compresses completely after a few uses, and sleeping on it is genuinely uncomfortable. A good corner sofa bed uses a spring mattress, the same type used in a proper bed. Every model I sell at Lava Corners has a spring sleeping surface. The difference overnight is significant and your guests will notice.

The mechanism matters more than you think

When you unfold the sofa it should lie completely flat. No ridge in the middle, no raised edge that digs into your lower back at 3am. Cheaper mechanisms leave a noticeable bump where the sections meet. I only stock models where the mechanism opens fully flat. It is one of the first things I check when I am selecting a new sofa for the range.

The frame tells you how long it will last

The sofas I sell are EU-made with hardwood frames and proper spring suspension in the seat cushions. They hold their shape for years. A lot of budget imports use chipboard and webbing which starts sagging within 18 months. You can usually tell the difference just by sitting on it. If it feels slightly hollow or gives too much in the centre, the frame is probably not great.

Fabric for real life

If you have kids or a dog, standard fabric is going to give you anxiety every time someone eats near the sofa. I offer a Family Friendly fabric range with Water Blocked technology. Spills bead on the surface so you can wipe them before they soak in. It is €100 extra and in most houses with children it is genuinely worth it. I also have velvet options for people who want something a bit more luxurious.

Left or Right Corner

When you are facing the sofa, whichever side you want the longer chaise section to be on, that is the corner you order. Left means the chaise is on your left as you sit down. Right means it is on your right. The easiest way to decide is to stand where the sofa will go and think about how you actually use the room. I ask every customer about this before production begins because it is impossible to change afterwards.

How Long Does Delivery Take

Every sofa I sell is made to order, so lead time is 4 to 6 weeks. Your sofa is built after you order it, to your fabric and corner specification. Nothing comes out of a warehouse.

Delivery is free anywhere in Ireland including Northern Ireland. Your sofa arrives flat-packed and takes about 15 minutes to put together with two people. No tools needed. If you are living alone or need a hand with delivery, just message me before you order and we will sort something out.

Can You Try the Fabric First

Yes. You can order up to 5 free fabric samples and I will post them to you within 3 days. Colours look very different on a screen than they do in your living room under your own lighting. I always recommend ordering samples before you commit. There is no obligation to buy and it saves a lot of second-guessing.

What Happens After You Order

After you place your order I call you personally on the next working day. We go through your fabric choice, corner side, leg colour and delivery details together. Not a customer service team. Not an automated email. Me, Joanna, the person who selected every sofa in the range.

Your deposit is €299 and it is fully refundable if you change your mind before production starts. I want you to feel completely comfortable with your decision before we begin.

Is It Worth It

For most Irish homes, yes. A corner sofa bed with a proper spring mattress and a solid frame will last 8 to 10 years with normal use. Your guests will sleep well. The sofa will look good every day. The storage will get used constantly.

The ones that are not worth it are the cheap ones with foam sleeping surfaces and chipboard frames. They look the same in photos and feel fine for the first few months. After that the mechanism starts sticking, the foam compresses, and the fabric starts pilling. By year two you are already thinking about replacing it.

If you have any questions about any model in my range, WhatsApp me at 086 214 6318. I reply within a few hours and I am happy to help you find the right sofa for your room, your budget and your household.
